Mabel Nana Nyarkoa Porbley is the MD/CEO of Sanlam General Insurance Ghana, a subsidiary of the South African-based financial services leader, Sanlam Group. With over a century of expertise and operations in 34 African countries, Sanlam Group is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

Mabel is renowned for her expertise in business management, strategy development, and implementation, particularly in restructuring companies for growth and creating value for stakeholders. She has a successful track record of turning around loss-making entities and driving profitability within short timeframes. Under her leadership, Sanlam General Insurance Ghana LTD (formerly Saham Insurance Ghana Ltd) rose from the 21st position to the 10th position within five years while transforming it from a ten-year loss-making entity to a profitable one in just two years.

Mabel holds key positions on various boards and councils, including Izwe Savings & Loans, Venture Capital Trust Fund, ECOWAS Brown Card Bureau, and the West African Institute of Insurance in the Gambia. She currently serves as the Vice President on the Ecowas Brown Card Board, the 2nd Vice President of the Ghana Insurance Association, and the Chair of the Non-Life Council of the Insurers Association.

With a wealth of experience, Mabel has held significant roles in reputable companies such as NSIA Insurance Ghana and Metropolitan Group Ghana. She has led restructuring initiatives, managed business integration, and demonstrated her proficiency in deriving value for stakeholders.

Mabel is a chartered insurer from the Chartered Insurance Institute of the UK and holds an Executive Master’s in Business Administration from GIMPA. She obtained her BA degree in Management Studies and a diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast. Additionally, she was honored as the Insurance Personality of the Year in 2017 at the Women in Banking and Finance Awards.
